Ambedkar Jayanti popularly known as Bhim Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Father of our Constitution – Dr. Ambedkar, popularly known as Baba Saheb was born on 14th April 1891 to Ramji Ambadvekar and Bhimabai.
Ambedkar Jayanti is a public holiday celebrated throughout India. Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated by the people of India to remember his immense contributions for the poor people of India, especially Dalits.
Baba Saheb Ambedkar greatly contributed to the nation as a jurist, philosopher, politician, anthropologist, economist and historian. He has been honored with the Bharat Ratna in April 1990 for his big contributions towards the Indian society.
Ambedkar Jayanti Celebrations :
People across the country, especially Dalits, celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti in a grand manner. Ambedkar Jayanti Processions are carried out by his followers at Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai and Deeksha Bhoomi in Nagpur. Similar processions are carried out by people in other parts of the country.
On this day, prominent political leaders and senior national figures, such as the President, Prime Minister and leaders of major political parties pay homage to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at the Parliament of India in New Delhi.
Schools and Colleges across the nation organize activities like dance, painting, debate, dramatics, essay writing, as well as sports to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti.
