Jai Bhim : Greeting Phrase used by Indian Buddhists & Ambedkarist’s

Jai Bhim or Jay Bhim (Sanskrit : जय भीम) is a greeting phrase used by followers of Babasaheb Ambedkar i.e., the people who converted to Buddhism with or by inspiration of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

Most of these people are Dalits who converted to Buddhism.

Jai Bhim is not a religious term by its origin and meaning. Jai Bhim literally means “Victory to Bhim” i.e., to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar whom we call Babasaheb. This phrase is used as a mark of respect towards Dr. Ambedkar.

The term Jai Bhim was coined by Babu L. N. Hardas, a strong follower of Ambedkar. The term “Jai Bhim” was passed by Swatantra Majadur Sangh (Independent Labor Party) on 16th February 1937.
